You know what else the world has a shortage of? Somewhat educational, somewhat interesting video topics! Help us find the few left by suggesting them to us and, to reward you if you've done this successfully, we'll send a free HAI t-shirt to anyone who suggests a topic we use: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfUdlvw6YgU44J8AnM2U_ZvRMyvh_CUM51LYSqF5nYJB9d1-w/viewform?usp=sf_link

I don't guess anybody is checking this any more, nonetheless, I would like to say that I don't buy this explanation (pardon the pun). If people are using cash less often, then people are receiving change less often. If anything, there should have been a glut, not a shortage of coins (assuming that people are more likely to pay with bills and receive change, rather than count out exact change). Why wasn't there a shortage of bills? The given explanation is inadequate

I've been doing *_ALL_* my shopping online, even food and groceries. Haven't been to an actual store since, I think, sometime in March. Oh, BTW, you sound just like the guy from Wendover.

Why you have russian rubles on every video about coins? Is there some conspiracy behind it? There is 5 rubles coin on 0:57 And another 26 rubles on 4:00

The US has decommissioned coins before. Even if this is a golden opportunity to get rid of coins (which costs more to mint than they are worth), they should at least put an end to pennies. They got rid of the millicent and no one noticed. Overseas, the military uses nickel pricing. Not unheard of.
Wait so if people throw away pennies all the time how does the fed account for that or do we just secretly lose a ton of money like everyone start searching and find all these and maybe we can pay some debts
4:00 That's Russian Rubles
shoutout daveed.
space Invaders
so it's more like... *COINGESTION*
As a start... they could make it illegal for banks to charge members to deposit coins. Those stupid machines that take like 5% for the right to turn money into money are a scam!
Does this mean 2020 coins will be valuable in 50yrs? Since beanie babies didn't work out, this is my new retirement plan 😉
I don't get that if it costs more to make than it's worth do everyone a solid and get rid of em
Sometimes even buying stuff No but actually *yes*
I really wondered about this, thanks!
Mr. Beast sweating nervously
@brick rude
This guy sounds like the guy from wendover
As someone from Nebraska I can confirm it does not exist
I think they just cloned you to run all these channels...lol
BS. The Fed is Privately owned, and accountable to nobody, as admitted by Alan Greenspan. The Mint, upon easing of covid restrictions, resumed production with 10% of normal staffing. "If you weren't curious about that, oh well, DEAL WITH IT."
There was a shortage of coins well b4 corona
This guy sounds like the guy from Wendover
lmao they arent... they want to push card only money .....check the production amount we have produce far more the last 3 years than any other time in history
When I go to target the cashier just rounds up to the nearest tenth of a dollar
3:21 "It cost 7 cents to make a nickel..." Technically accurate, but not nominally accurate. The nickel is created once for 7 cents. However it's a nickel thousands of times (i.e. 1,000 X 0.05 = $50). IOW, a thing is made for 7 cents, and sold for $50.
.
Short explanation: there isn't a shortage, people just don't use them
GET A NEW WRITER PLEASE, TOO MANY BAD JOKES
Why doesn't Nebraska exist?
For some reason I can’t stop watching you
I quite using cash, I only use my debt card.
I hate how you add useless conversation to the video, stop it.
Those coin collectors are finally showing their influence.
0:42 Real life lore the world is ran by Toyota Corollas
How about millions of broke mofo's out of work that rolled up their change to buy food and gas this year. How about thousand's of businesses that went bust over the bullcrap virus scare. Don't piss down my leg and tell me it's raining. There's no shortage
The explanation for the coin shortage makes no sense. In this video it says that people are paying more with cards. This should alleviate a coin shortage (since businesses don't have to make change and give out coins), not cause a coin shortage. All in all, if fewer people are using cash, it should balance out: fewer people are giving coins to businesses and businesses are giving fewer coins to people.
…Isn’t that a SIM card in the thumbnail??
Ive been in that exact WinCo before
You actually had me Google search “Nebraska” because for a split second I was like wait Nebraska doesn’t exist??? It does, lol.
You sound just like the guy from Half as interesting.
Sometimes I be vacuum up them quarters not going to lie
You just sound like the person from real life lore to
And yet a cashier at a store wouldn’t let me swap coins for bills, even though it was all quarters
The shortage is a lie. I took coins to stores to exchange and NONE of them wanted it.
We need the brick episode
your puns are getting annoying. One of two is fine, but 438?
What the hell was the first 45 seconds? This entire video was above and beyond cringy.
Why don't we get rid of the penny and round the total of a purchase to the closest nickle.
I think the shortage is due to the insane act of stamping out hundreds of commemorative coins. That makes people collect them. All the different quarters, nickels, pennys must take billions of them out of circulation. Bicentennial quarters are cool. Wheat penny's are still a joy to find. But come on. $800 in fancy coins in a drawer when your hungry and need toilet paper is pretty strange.
Just wonderful, I've been looking for "what is the best coin to collect?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Wonenry Sonucas Approach - (do a search on google )? It is an awesome one off product for uncovering a proven trading method to get fast results without the headache. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my work colleague got cool results with it.
Death to coins! Why not use digital?
I don't buy that explanation. If people are actually avoiding handling icky cash because they don't want to get Wuhan cooties, then that leaves more coins for the rest of us. After all, if you use plastic or your phone's wallet app to pay for stuff you don't ever get any change back, thus reducing the need for coinage. Oh, and while you're at it, please send me all your "useless" pennies. Why weigh yourself down with useless stuff? I will gladly provide a loving home for useless pennies. I also accept unwanted and unloved nickels, dimes and quarters.
Here in my area we were never having a shortage of coins
What the Hell does this have to do with getting my stimulus check?
Are all of these videos this schizophrenic? I need to play this at half speed and take my anti-depressants before I hit play
We should get rid of pennies and put Lincoln on the dollar coin.
Orrrrrr........ it’s time for the cashless society

First coins then bills
This dudes card expires in 2084 wtf
Is this a US-specific problem?
You strangely sound like the guy over at @Wendover Productions Anyone know why?
I'm from Nebraska and can confirm we don't exist.
You know, y'all see a problem, I see an opportunity. Now is the time to discontinue the minting of the penny, perhaps even the nickle. Electronic pay? You pay whatever the price normally comes out to with tax. Pay in cash? Round to the nearest 5 cents OR 10 cents if you're also axing the nickle.
What is the diff between wendover Productions and Half as Interesting?
i think theres a coin shortage because of the corona virus and so people are holding onto coins to try to stop the sread or something like anyone know what i mean?
3:57 *Pissed Nebraskan Noises*
Dude, Nebraska. I knew it.
The question not answered is: If people are using credit cards now, then all stores should have their prepandemic stocks of coins because have not been giving them out when purchases are being made. So why is there a shortage?

Because those jerks that fiddle around with buckets of change for a several hundred dollar purchase aren't doing it any more because they'll get covid from the hours it takes to pay the cashier. Also people probably aren't going and depositing change at the banks as often as before, so the banks that disburse coins to businesses don't have them any more. That second one is probably the real overall reason. When I worked as a cashier at a gas station I hardly ever got coins paid to me. Nearly all of them came from the bank and were distributed to customers.
Great
There is no shortage of coins.
Copper coins are generally microbe free
Yawn.
R.I.P to all those who live in the state that doesn’t exist
I'm disappointed, because this video didn't answer the main question I have about this "crisis:" why would it affect the flow if people are no longer using cash? People not using cash means that yes they're not putting change into circulation, but also, they're not requiring any change. Naively, this seems net neutral, so what's going on here?
The root problem here seems to be never revising the standard coinage even after decades of inflation. A cent is fantastically worthless for most people. The last time I remember using one outside of putting it into a coin machine is as a kid, and back then we actually had cent candies.
What's Wendover?
Of course this should be obvious to everyone. but I'm a cashier and I've heard more people suggest it's a conspiracy theory run by democrats than actually display a knowledge of how money and change actually makes its way around our society.
But why do you sound like the guy from wendover
I'm from Nebraska and, you're right, we don't exist. And we have all the extra coins. They are buried in the Nebraska National Forest, the only man-made national forest on the planet. But since we don't exist, just try to find them!!! Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!!!
Me: looks over to my table where i have about 50 pounds of coins saved in a huge jar.
Tried to understand the coin shortage but every other line seems to be some cringey unfunny joke. Next time don't try so hard.
I found a couple of silver quarters in my change recently. Maybe people are digging into their stashes and putting them back in circulation.
Thank you for answering this I was wondering this the other day
Big brain business boi..... k bro
the Canadians got coin supremacy because the penny is gone ahahahhahahahahhahaha
Our lord and savior JPow with the cameo
I feel like I have no idea what HAI is saying
Too many siily jokes... Which of making the video less attractive to listen to
Found a mistake for your next mistakes video. At 3:57 you say that "Nebraska doesn't exist", when we all know it's actually Wyoming that doesn't exist.
looking through the comments and i am very disappointed to find that no one got the hamilton joke 😭
Just coming here to say fuck pennies
You should do less jokes. You are making too many per video and it's annoying.
Think you might wanna check up with your math department again 4:07
Coins are also good hoarding fodder in a period of world-wide excess currency creation. Especially nickels and pre-1982 pennies (then it is 1982 & later pennies and quarters). Add that on top of the reduced transnational velocity in the video. The reduced velocity of currency also is giving the FED a license to currency create excessively even more as the very low velocity of currency negates, at least temporarily, the price-inflation effects of the inflation/increase in the currency supply (mostly digitally created today).
The world is definetly not run by wonderfull and smart racoons in suits and im deffinatly not one of them. I think everyone should leave there trashcans open tonight
Loose the penny and the dollar bill , make a dollar coin and live happily ever after .
Because left wing globalists think they see a chance to force us into a cashless world where they can control our access to our own money.
Piggy banks
"Nebraska doesn't exist"???
its not in a shortage of coins i just went to a coinstar and it said it was full >:(
2:27 Not a comment on the video, but on the stock footage: that is the most *useless,* half-assed attempt at a barrier I've ever seen. lol
Its like amazing how much his tone changes from one chennal to other... At first i thought they were brothers or twins... 😂😂
Too much schtick. Where is the beef?
